Julie Vinnedge was amazed and comforted by the fact that a community that never knew her son took the time and energy to design, order and place a banner in his honor along the Memorial Day race route. Julie was not alone in her feelings of gratitude. Other Gold Star mothers have expressed similar sentiments. A number of Gold Star family members travel long distances each year to spend Memorial Day in Laguna Hills.
Banners of the 25 that were lost in the 2010-11 deployment to Afghanistan are proudly displayed in Laguna Hills each year before Memorial Day and remain in place until the 4th of July.
Thank you so much for honoring the 25 3/5. It means the
world to know that our sons will not be forgotten."

The community rallied to the cry of Banners Up! We'd like to thank all the generous people who considered the honoring of our Marines a worthy cause.

Team Darkhorse initiated the Banners Up project as a means of honoring these deserving heros as if they grew up in Laguna Hills. Funding for the banners was raised by contributions from local residents and businesses.
The photos on the banners, which were chosen by the respective Gold Star families, give a personal touch that only someone who truly knew them could provide.
These banners continue to bring smiles and tears to the loved ones of the Fallen 25. We feel privileged to welcome these Gold Star families to our community each Memorial Day as we honor their sons .
